Brave Ali goes public after being blinded by a bottle at Ally Pally on New Year’s Eve

Police need your help finding a man responsible for blinding a partygoer who was having fun with friends on New Year’s Eve.

24-year-old Ali Doostizadeh, of New Southgate, had gone to Alexandra Palace with friends was stood by the South Terrace in the early hours of New Year’s Day when, at 1.30am, a fight started nearby.

Ali, who tried to break up the fight, was bottled and suffered a laceration to his right eye.

“He was taken to an east London hospital by a family member and is continuing to receive medical treatment,” police said in a statement.

“Detectives would like to speak with anyone who was in the area at the time of the assault.

“As it was New Year’s Eve, officers believe that a number of people will have taken photographs and it is possible that they may have captured an image of the suspect.

“The suspect is described as Asian, aged in his late teens, 5ft 10ins tall with dark brown hair. He was wearing an orange and white striped coat,” the statement added.

And Detective Constable Ian Cant, from Haringey CID, added: “This was a particularly nasty and unprovoked attack on a young man who was celebrating the New Year with friends. The level of violence used has left him blind in one eye, and he remains in hospital recovering from his injuries.

“The suspect was wearing a very distinctive coat and I would ask anyone who was at Alexandra Palace, and who he took photographs to check the images to see whether he is in the background.

“Any piece of information may help to identify the suspect so that we can speak with him,” DC Cant added.

Anyone with info or who saw the assault is asked to contact police via 101 or @MetCC.

Alternatively, you can call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
