RAF fighter jets have scrambled to escort a plane from Lahore into Stansted after reports of an unruly passenger on board.
The 747 aircraft, travelling from the Pakistani city to Heathrow, landed at Stansted at 2.50pm today after RAF Typhoon aircraft from Lincolnshire escorted it.
The incident was “not believed to be a hijack situation or terror matter,” Essex Police said.
It is believed to have occurred as a result of a disruptive passenger.
The RAF added: “The RAF can confirm Quick Reaction Typhoon Aircraft were launched this afternoon from RAF Coningsby to intercept a civilian aircraft.
“The aircraft was intercepted and safely escorted to Stansted airport.”
