Police in Waltham Forest need your help after a woman who suffers from learning difficulties was scammed out of over £5,000 by two men posing as builders.
The men turned up at the 48-year-old woman’s address in Howard Road in E17 back in August, telling her she needed urgent repairs to her roof.
The work was never carried out, but the men called her daily pestering her for cash. Ultimately, they got £5,300 in cash from her.
“The two men are described as white, between 30 and 50 years, both of medium build with short brown hair. One was wearing a red, black or grey cap,” said police.
“They were driving a white van with no wording on the side.”
And DC Matt Hogg from Waltham Forest CID added: “This was a callous attack on a vulnerable member of the community who was deliberately and systematically targeted by two grown men who knew exactly what they were doing. We need the public’s help to catch them before they target other vulnerable members of society.”
Please call the Waltham Forest Community Safety Unit via 101 with any information. To remain anonymous call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
