Four arrested following Forest Gate protest

Four people have been arrested following a protest outside Forest Gate police station yesterday (Sunday 25th).

Police said that a senior officer engaged with the crowd but that the incident also spread to the Stratford area.

“The protest returned to the police station, where a number of objects were thrown towards officers,” police said.

“A small number of fires – involving the contents of litter bins – were also set in the street. These were quickly dealt with by the London Fire Brigade.

“At 22:50hrs, the size of the protest had significantly reduced but the protesters remained in the area.

“Shortly after 23:10hrs, the main crowd dispersed into a number of smaller groups and again officers had items thrown at them,” police added.

Six officers were injured and four were taken to hospital for medical treatment.

Four people have been arrested following the protests – one on suspicion of disorder offences, three on suspicion of arson and criminal damage.
