It’s official: Bow is the most festive part of Britain (according to posties)

Bow has been revealed to be the most festive area in Britain with the highest number of yuletide-themed place names.

Research carried out by Royal Mail shows that there are 212 Christmassy house names and 47 festive street names in the neighbourhood. Hackney, Willesden Green and Islington also performed highly.

The research looked for words like Holly, Ivy, and Reindeer coming before common address terms like “Street” or “Road”.

It also looked at names of individual homes, finding that Golders Green had the highest number of houses named Ivy.

“At Christmas time, we deliver millions of letters and parcels to homes across the country. We understand the tough job that faces Santa,” said Steve Rooney, Head of Royal Mail’s Address Management Unit.

“These seasonal street and house names add a bit of festive fun into the day and definitely put a smile on our face when we are out, no matter the weather.

“For anyone who is still to post their cards or presents, remember that the last posting date for Second Class is Tuesday 20 December and for First Class, Wednesday 21 December.”
