“Lives are at risk”: Belgravia anarchist squat attacked with bricks

A mansion in Belgravia which is currently occupied by anarchists was attacked this weekend by a group the occupants described as “fascists”.

“We are being violently attacked by fascists, get to 102 Eaton Square immediately. Lives are at risk,” the squatters wrote on Twitter.

It is understood that the attackers later dispersed. “The mansion is being secured from inside after attacks by fascists, children are being moved upstairs, no reports of injuries,” the group added on Twitter.

The £15m house is owned by Russian oligarch Andrey Goncharenko. The squatters face a court battle this week over their occupation of the building.

The building is currently also used to house homeless people.

The Met said: “Police were called to Eaton Square, SW1, just after 16:15hrs on Saturday, 28 January, to reports of a disturbance involving a group outside a non-residential property.

“The suspects made off before officers arrived. Officers have conducted local searches and are patrolling the local area. There have been no arrests. Inquiries continue.”

The building was previously used as a Spanish culture centre.
