A row over the future of the Notting Hill Carnival has erupted this week after an MP suggested it be MOVED.
Lady Victoria Borwick, MP for Kensington, has told Sadiq Khan that the “year on year increase in violence and physical harm to our police officers and members of the public” means changes need to be made.
“This not about minor changes… We need to all work together for a safe carnival that you can bring your children and grandchildren to,” the Evening Standard reports she said.
But Iain Dale, the LBC broadcaster and her fellow Conservative politician, hit back.
“If the Carnival crime rate was the same as at Glastonbury, there would be 750 arrests, not 454,” he said on his radio show.
“I think you’re exaggerating the crime here, to make a point.
“Frankly, where there are a million people gathered, there is always going to be some crime. There is always going to be some violence.”
