The Queen will not attend New Year’s Day church service

The Queen was expected to attend the church service at Sandringham, with her husband, the Duke of Edinburgh, but she remains ill with a “heavy cold”.

The 90-year-old also missed the Christmas Day ceremony at St Mary Magdalene Church.

A Palace spokeswoman said: “Her Majesty The Queen will not attend Sunday worship at Sandringham today.

“The Queen does not yet feel ready to attend church as she is still recuperating from a heavy cold.”

Pranksters had been claiming that the Queen died last night, as many hoped she would not become victim of the “2016 curse”.
