“Not just fires”: London’s hard-working firefighters today turned their attention to a cuteness emergency on the banks of the Thames as the RSPCA rescued a seal who was on a pontoon.
Firefighters from the Brentford area made sure that the RSPCA officers were safe as the rescue was carried out.

“We were called by the RSPCA and fire crews were there to ensure the safety of RSPCA officers,” said station Manager Andy Walton, who was at the scene.
“The RSPCA officers safely caught the seal in a noose and placed it on a rescue mat.
“With the help of firefighters the seal was carried via a pedestrian bridge into an animal ambulance. The rescue was a success and the watching public clapped from the banks of the river,” he added.
Two fire engines and two fire rescue units attended the incident, which was over in less than two hours.
