Time Out to open a huge market in East London – with shops, bars, and even an art gallery

Magazine publisher Time Out will open a market in Shoreditch in 2017, it announced today.

The brand, which is steadily expanding into the entertainment business, opened a similar market in Lisbon – the capital of Portugal – back in 2014.

The London branch will occupy an almost-20,000 square foot location on Commercial Street near Brick Lane and Whitechapel.

City AM reports that it will have bars, shops, restaurants, and even an art gallery.

It also plans to open in the Portuguese second city of Porto, plus Miami and New York City.

Chief executive Julio Bruno said:

“I’m absolutely delighted to announce that we will be bringing our unique Time Out Market format to London,” said the group’s CEO Julio Bruno.

“This is not only one of the world’s most vibrant and exciting cities, but also the birthplace of our iconic brand. Opening a Time Out Market here is an incredible milestone for our brand and our growth strategy.

“Inspiring and enabling people to experience the best of a city is at the heart of everything we do. Now we’re bringing this ethos to life in Time Out Market which we believe Londoners and visitors are going to love. It will be a uniquely designed location to capture the very soul of this great city,” Bruno added.
