PICTURES: Sinkhole appears in Lewisham, bus begins sinking into road

This was the shocking moment that a sinkhole appeared in Lewisham and started swallowing up a bus yesterday.

The semi-sinking, which took place on Lee High Road, led to police declaring a major incident.

It is understood the bus involved was a tour coach operated by a French company.

Homes have been left without water, but Thames Water advises that water services are returning to normal.

One police officer, who signed off as Sergeant Biddle, made light of the situation on social media.

“You may have woken up to a ‘hole’ lot of grief in Lee High Rd. Please avoid the area!” the officer wrote.
